Action Against eBay Ticket Touts (UK)

This petition has been set up to get eBay (UK) to take action against ticket touts who re-sell event tickets such as gigs and festivals at vastly inflated prices. To use T in the Park 2006 as a pertinent example, the face value of a 2006 weekend with camping ticket is 115. However, the current bid for 2 of these tickets at 13:15 (GMT), 17th February 2006 is, for one listing, 720. This is an increase of more than 200\% and this is unacceptable. The tickets only went on sale at 9am this morning.

Britain has an excellent variety of events and music on offer for people who genuinely take pleasure from these. For some of us these events have been integral to us growing up. This innocent pleasure is now being tarnished by greedy ticket touts.

I would draw your attention to the following section of the eBay website on the re-selling of restricted items such as event tickets:

http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/policies/contracts.html

I have also drawn a quote from the back of another Ticketmaster ticket (Richard Ashcroft for the Glasgow Carling Academy 08/05/06):

The purchaser represents and warrants that the ticket is purchased for personal use only, and that it is not purchased as part of any form of business or commercial activity (save as expressly authorised by the Event Partner and its agents), and in particular, that the ticket may not be resold or offered for resale by anyone whether at a premium or otherwise and may not be used for advertising, promotion (including contests and sweepstakes) or for any other trade purposes. Resale or attempted resale at a price higher than that printed herein is grounds for seizure or cancellation without refund or other compensation.

Please sign up for this petition if you think it is time for eBay to take action to combat ticket touts.

We, the undersigned, strongly object to the re-selling of tickets for events by unscrupulous touts, leaving genuine customers unable to get tickets. We feel that real supporters of music/sports are being unfairly treated by their excessive pricing and ask that this illegal practice be ended by eBay.
