The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has admitted great artists in the past, such as Led Zeppelin and AC/DC. However, one band extremely important to rock has been overlooked. This band has contributed greatly to:
British Metal,
Arena Rock,
Heavy Metal,
British Invasion,
and Hard Rock.
This band is Deep Purple. Formed in 1968 in Hertford, England, Deep Purple continues to exist and has delivered solid music consistently since. Deep Purple influenced such acts as:
Judas Priest,
Metallica,
Quiet Riot,
Rush,
and Uriah Heep.
In 1968, Deep Purple released an album entitled ""Shades Of Deep Purple"" (their first), which contained a cover of Joe South's "Hush". "Hush" went on to become, arguably, the band's most popular song. In 1972, the band released the album ""Machine Head"", which reached the Top Five in United States and went on to be certified Multi-platinum (Two Times Platinum) for selling 2,000,000 copies in United States. The album contained "Smoke On The Water", the opening guitar riff of which has become a staple of British Metal.
Deep Purple has contained many extremely talented musicians (such as Rod Evans on Vocals, Ritchie Blackmore on Guitar, Nicky Simper on Bass, Ian Paice on Drums, and the legendary Jon Lord on Keyboards) over the years, and, despite numerous lineup changes, the band remains happily "married" and still as great as ever.
Therefore, we, the undersigned, as fans of rock, wish for Deep Purple to be admitted to their rightful place alongside Led Zeppelin and AC/DC in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame under the category of Performers.
