Re: Town of Ajax Plans to Widen Rossland Road & Construct Bridges at Duffins Creek & Urfe Creek
Residents Strongly Oppose:
Loss of parklands and sport fields adjacent to Duffins Creek at Rossland Road & Church Street in the Town of Ajax (i.e. near Kinsmen Heritage Centre).
Loss of social and environmental resources reducing our quality of life. This includes the loss of recreation resources within this natural environment. The project does not identify compensation to the community for the loss of these parklands and sport fields.
Town of Ajax plans to widen Rossland Road, construct bridges at Duffins Creek & Urfe Creek, increase traffic volume and permanently disrupt the natural environment surrounding these creek valleys.
An ineffective public consultation process which has limited: consideration of alternatives, appropriate level of detail, community engagement. Resident requests for additional public consultation on this issue have been rejected.
(Resident opposition includes but is not limited to the above.)
Residents Support:
Providing additional public consultation and elevating the project to an Individual Environmental Assessment.
Preserving the natural environments surrounding Duffins Creek and Urfe Creek as uniquely valuable environmental features of our community. These water systems are a natural habitat and migration route for many wildlife and aquatic species (including deer and endangered species redside dace) and enrich our community immeasurably by connecting Oak Ridges Moraine to the Ajax Waterfront.
