TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
In the tax year 2012-2013, Amazon UK only paid £3.2 million of tax on £4.5 billion of sales in the UK. They did this by diverting the major part of their UK sales profits to an offshore subsidiary in Luxembourg. This meant that the company was able to record a profit before taxation of just £10.8 million pounds in the UK.
In a time of economic hardship, whilst many British people try to heat their home and put food on the table this industrial tax avoidance is simply disgusting. A company claiming to be ‘responsible’ and ‘ethical’ should take more responsibility for paying their way in a market which is so rewarding for them.
By paying, sometimes a cheaper price, for products from Amazon, we are simply supporting a culture of corporate tax avoidance, in which the unrelenting drive for higher profits is put before any concern for humanity or the well being of the customer. ***I therefore propose that Amazon’s attempts to suck money out of the UK for their profits represents bad customer service, since less tax paid means less doctors, teachers, help for carers and the disabled, leading to much of the deterioration in our country today ***
By signing this petition, you make this statement to Amazon:
'We, the British People, your customers, therefore recommend that you pay your corporation tax fairly and in full, without siphoning profits made from purchases by UK Citizens to other tax areas, in order that you might improve your customer service. If there is no improvement in this irresponsible attitude, come the end of the next tax year (April 2014), we pledge to stop buying your products since this lack of consideration for you customers can no longer be tolerated.'
