Appeal to Chief Minister of Kerala Government to establish MCIRC

Malabar Cancer Institute and Research Centre (MCIRC) Trust was trying to establish a fully-fledged cancer hospital providing free treatment to poor patients. There are 6 acres of land with a 3-storey building with two finished wards and outpatient facility. Furthermore, the building for Radiation Oncology was 70% complete. Due to the high cost of the radiotherapy equipment, in spite of our appeals to various organisations and individuals, we were unable to achieve the fundraising goal. After discussions with the then Health Minister in 2010, we handed over the land and the building to the government of Kerala with the promise that the site and the premises would only be used for establishment of a cancer hospital and research centre. The Health Minister designated responsibility for this project to the Director of Malabar Cancer Centre in Thallassery. Unfortunately no progress was made. After the new government came to power, it was decided in June 2011 that the Malabar Cancer Centre Thallassery would no longer be responsible for the MCIRC project. However no further decisions or actions were taken. Currently, the MCIRC site and building is laying to waste, with no patients, no activity and no maintenance. This is a terrible waste of all the hard work and money raised by the trustees, donors and supporters. Moreover the poor cancer sufferers of Kerala are missing the opportunity for diagnosis, treatment and palliative care.
