Appeal to Save Artist Village at Sentosa

We wish to appeal to the relevant authorities to reconsider their decision to close down the artists village on Sentosa island. The village is unique in that it offers visitors a chance to see artists at work instead of merely viewing a static exhibit. Seeing an artist at work is an educational and inspiring experience; witnessing the creative process allows us to participate in a small way the artists vision and experience and thus enhances our appreciation of art. The village is therefore of great value in the promotion of the arts.

Closing the village without offering an alternative site on the island sends the wrong signal to the artistic community and the public regarding the governments commitment to promoting the arts which we believe to be genuine. In an island of 5 sq, km, the little space occupied by the village can surely if found if theres a will to preserve what for many visitors is a unique experience.

We appeal to the authorities to please reconsider.
