Bring Back Night Shift w/ Sri Rao

This past summer, soap fans were offered a second chance to catch one of todays most popular soap opera couples, as well as a few new characters once more a week, for fourteen weeks only on Soapnet. Every Tuesday night, writer Sri Rao brought General Hospital characters Robin Scorpio and Patrick Drake to life in his own special way, even bringing back the beloved Robert Scorpio, father to Robin and a legend to not only GH, but the genre itself. And in such a brief amount of time, Mr. Rao was able to do what so many fans believed impossible: he made us fall in love.
Fans of Robin and Patrick aka SCRUBS were overjoyed last year at the prospect of seeing their favorite duo at nighttime for a brief stint during the summer - at first. And who wouldnt have been? There were promos and pictures, all of which promised three months of two doctors in love, working the night shift. Unfortunately for those fans, they bought into something that turned out to be anything but that. And as a result, the simple mention of the title of the series became almost an obscenity in itself. Needless to say, when talks of a second season came about, these same fans were less than thrilled at the idea. We wanted none of it. We didnt trust that the same mistakes wouldnt be made again.
But when it comes to Kimberly McCullough and Jason Thompson, theres just something about them that makes you want to take a chance anyway. With their rare, flawless, breathtaking chemistry - really, its no contest against overcautious, weary minds that might want to play it safe and watch something that isnt going to all but drive them insane in the worst of ways. So, we went there. We traveled down that road yet again, for Kimberly and Jason, for SCRUBS - on the off chance that this guy - this Sri Rao - would prove to be unique, and not just another Bob Guza. And the overall consensus in doing so? Well, we believe this letter speaks for itself on that front.
Sri Rao took two characters that already had a huge following, penned a second part to a show that most simply wanted to block out of their minds completely and made it seem like the two werent even related. Sri Rao gave fans what they yearned for the first time around, and so much more. There wasnt one episode that passed when we didnt see the love between Robin and Patrick, the bond everlasting that ran like a brilliant, shining thread throughout the series, holding it together. And while that bond was tested due to various events throughout the season, it was never broken. Never tarnished. And in the end, it merely blossomed, grew stronger. Thats all we ever wanted to see for them, and Mr. Rao delivered. And beyond that, he gave us family moments, visits to the past and all in all a picture of what has been lost somewhere along the way on the mothership, what fans so desperately want to see again: love in the afternoon, character driven storylines and a feeling of hope.
Night Shift 2 was a most special tribute to the Scorpio family, the Robin and Patrick romance, and to the fans that support both. We were sad to see it end and would love to see it come back again, and again and again. Kimberly and Jason and their characters often have a minimal role on GH, so, it would be nice to see them for a fair, more than decent amount of time every week on a show written by someone that doesnt seem to mind giving them focus, energy and a means to work through issues often otherwise ignored elsewhere. Sri Rao more than proved that hes the man for the job and we wouldnt have it any other way. Weve been spoiled, humbled by his art and would like nothing more than to see Night Shift 3, starring Kimberly and Jason, with Mr. Rao putting the whole thing together.
We, the fans, want this show back on the air and we want it ASAP. We dont want to wait until next summer. We want more Sri, more Kimberly and Jason, more SCRUBS and more NS - their way, and thus, our way as well. Were seeking more of what we tasted for a short while, what we cant seem to get enough of. Please bring Night Shift back!
