Burlington Telecom: Keep Al-Jazeera!
Sign Now
Vermont and the city of Burlington have a long history of defending and celebrating diversity and tolerance. The recent attempts to force Burlington Telecom to stop carrying Al-Jazeera English undermine those very principles. With Burlington Telecom having unlimited bandwidth, and with Al-Jazeera English providing its feed at no cost to Burlington Telecom, there is no good reason for the Burlington Telecom to drop the station.
Opponents of Burlington Telecom keeping Al-Jazeera English have said that the station is anti-Israel. However Al-Jazeera is the most watched station in Israel.
The move to stop offering Al-Jazeera English is actually an attempt to censor dissenting views from the Middle East, views that are often excluded from the mainstream media.
Vermonters need access to a greater variety of information, opinions and views, not fewer! We will not let intolerance of Arab and Muslim viewpoints limit our access to news and alternative view points.
This attack on Al-Jazeera is an attack on free speech!
We the undersigned urge Burlington Telecom to keep Al-Jazeera English as part of its programming.
