The residents of Linley Point, Lane Cove West and surrounding areas require direct public transport to the city via Victoria Road. Current options can take over an hour depending on time of day, which is unacceptable for a suburb only 7km from the city.
• The closest city bus route is over 1.5 km away involving a 20 minute uphill walk over expressway or under Fig Tree Bridge to Hunter’s Hill overpass which is unacceptable for many residents (including older residents and those with children), posing a safety risk after dark.
• With more young people living in the area, buses provide a means for them to travel independently, including to and from school.
• Presently two buses are required to reach the city via Lane Cove.
• A bus route via Burns Bay Road and Victoria Road will make good use of the new bus lane over Iron Cove Bridge.
• Acceptable public transport will reduce the number of private vehicles entering and parking in the city. Most residents who work in the city currently do not have an acceptable option, and need to use cars.
• More buses will reduce traffic congestion and improve waiting times for other commuters using Victoria Road buses.
• The large-scale Burns Bay Road residential development (Emerant Lane) of 84 units will enable many more residents to benefit from a city bus service.
• Better public transport will reduce our carbon footprint.
The online petitioners therefore ask the Legislative Assembly to provide a direct public bus service via Victoria Road from Linley Point and the areas on surrounding Burns Bay Road currently without acceptable city public transport options.
