C1 Pass

1. Seniority is earned with time, however, the C1 pass allows people to buy seniority. This in turn forces other employees to pay for a C1 pass in order to protect their seniority.
2. If every contingent traveller on a particular flight purchased a C1 pass, they would still be boarded in order of seniority. The only difference would be the increased travel charges.
3. The travel charge will not be reimbursed if the employee was not able to be accommodated in Executive Class.
4. Employees with young children are not permitted to be seated in Executive Class, but there are times when they are forced to buy a C1 for every person in their family, just to protect their seniority. They have to pay extra, knowing they wont be allowed to sit in J/C anyway.
5. A single person cannot take someone with them on a C1 pass, not even their nominated travel partner.
6. The number of C1 passes has already been doubled from two to four, and the concern is that one day C1s will be unlimited, which could make the C2 passes almost worthless.
7. Due to the concessions the employees took to keep the company afloat, they should not be asked to increase their travel costs just to protect their seniority. 27 months of consecutive record load factors should result in less cost to the employee, not more.
8. Eliminating the ability to purchase a C1 pass within 24 hours of departure does not address the issues outlined above.
9. Because a C1 pass is still a stand-by ticket, the companys policy of eliminating service charges on non-revenue travel should apply.
If you agree that the intent and the application of the C1 pass is wrong, and that seniority should not be purchased please sign the petition and forward it to other employees and retirees.
