We, the undersigned, are concerned parents of children in the Camden County, Georgia school system. We are appalled that the school has decided to have our children start the 2007-2008 school year on August 1st. While we understand that parents were allowed to vote for the proposed start date, the Camden County school board did not properly advertise nor adequately inform parents where, when or how to vote for the school calendar. We feel that starting school on August 1st is too early, it interferes with planned summer vacations, and puts undue hardship on the students and their families. We want the Camden County School board to amend the August 1st start date to one that is more reasonable, one that follows the majority of the nation - i.e. a start date after August 20th. By starting school later, it will save thousands of dollars in taxpayer money, give students a summer vacation that is more in tune with their friends across the country, and will eliminate the need for 1 week of vacation time every month from October through April. This issue is of upmost importance, and we feel confident that the school board will address this issue and make the appropiate changes.
