Campaign for Real Geeks

It is a truth universally acknowledged that geeks with incredibly under-developed social skills must be in want of a life. We, the geek lovers of the world, would like to see geeks with lives become reality. The tale is oft-told of the socially-inept geek putting his foot in it when talking to friends, chatting up the opposite sex, or blogging his life. Female geeks, too, suffer from this terrible syndrome, scientific name omgwtfangstius pathologicus. Symptoms include:

- Lacking basic tact, where honesty would hurt feelings and bending the truth may be necessary.

- Inability to take 'no' for an answer. Even when walloped verbally or physically.

- Too many skeletons in their closet. This may include psychological problems, inability to let go of previous attachments, regular use of therapists and/or drugs and expounding all of the above to people they have just met in pubs.

- Finding difficulty coping with social situations other than sitting with a PC. Geeks often seek solace in portable technology in social situations to avoid talking to others.

While we appreciate there are geeks out there with recognised conditions, the vast majority of those who have just been shut in a basement for too long can be changed with a little prodding. This is the kick up the backside geeks need. With your help, we can encourage them to get out more, be nicer, work out at the gym and get a Significant Other. After all, geeks are chic right now, and the ladies love a pretty geek.
