This petition is in opposition to the many blanket no pet policies adopted by countless members of Strata councils and landlords in British Columbia.
Companion animals enrich the lives of many people as well as the community at large. It has been researched, proven, and documented that owning a pet is beneficial in aiding both your physical and emotional health. It is not pets that cause the problems but irresponsible pet owners. We the undersigned would like to encourage the Strata councils and landlords of British Columbia to reconsider their positions on no pet policies by collaborating with pet owners to come up with a solution that works for everyone. We are sure you will find that pet owners in BC are very willing to co-operate by whatever means necessary to keep their animals with them in rental or Strata housing.
Many animals at the SPCA and countless other animal shelters across British Columbia are there solely because their owners were not able to find adequate pet friendly housing. It is not only devastating to pet owners but cruel to animals that now face being euthanized unless they are adopted by someone who has been lucky enough to find pet friendly housing. We the undersigned strongly encourage the British Columbia Residential Tenancy Act and the Strata Councils and Landlords of BC to revisit their no-pet policy and allow for a more humane approach for those of us who wish to find rental housing with our companion animals.
