Citizen Soldiers' Day

We, the undersigned, request that the Michigan Legislature and/or the U.S. Congress give recognition to the Citizen Soldiers, Citizen Sailors, Citizen Marines, Citizen Airmen, and their civilian employers by enacting an annual "Citizen Soldiers' Day" for the State of Michigan and/or the United States of America. This needed recognition would be accomplished by providing civilian employers the option of allowing their employees in the military to wear their appropriate military uniforms, on this designated day, the second Friday of May of each year.
The benefits of "Citizen Soldiers' Day" are not limited to the following:
1.) Recognition of the businesses that employ Citizen Soldiers, Citizen Sailors, Citizen Marines, and Citizen Airmen and the positive impact on our country's national security.
2.) Recognition of civilian coworkers of the service member and their increased workload when the service member is away on military duty. This additional work performed contributes to our country's national security.
3.) Recognition of the military service of Citizen Soldiers, Citizen Marines, Citizen Sailors, and Citizen Airmen.
3.) It is a very inexpensive way to show support for the reserve military, their civilian employers, and the coworkers of them.
4.) By recognizing the pride of employing citizen soldiers it will improve the relationship between employers and the reserve military. This would likely increase retention of the reserve military force.
5.) Another possible benefit is a reduction of problems associated with the service members reintegration back into the civilian workplace after an extended deployment.
6.) This proposed holiday emphasizes the notion of "Shared Sacrifice" in the contribution to American national security.
