Sir,
The students of Third Year will be applying to various US universities for MS degrees soon. We are deeply concerned about the fact that the GPA system in COEP may actually end up damaging our prospects. This has already been observed in case of currently graduating batch. Very few students have been able to secure admissions to top US universities. Pune University students with lower marks have secured better admits. One of the reasons is, perhaps, that while 60-70 \% marks in most subjects is a good performance by any standards, in our system it only merits a вCв, even if the topperвs score lies in the same range.
Sir, you are quite aware of where the problem lies and have also expressed this concern yourself in the past. We request you to take some measures such as вRelative Grading / Normalization/ Percentileв scores for all semesters so far, and not just the semesters henceforth. It is our sincere request that the transcripts we send for application to any university should bear a satisfactory indication of our relative performance.
A small effort on the part of the administration will help improve the career prospects of hundreds of COEPians that plan to pursue postgraduate studies.
We request you to kindly look into the matter and address our problems.
