There are approaching 550 Fairtrade Towns in the UK. High Wycombe is one of the last in its part of the UK to do: Aylesbury, Chesham, Henley-on-Thames, Reading, Slough, Watford and Windsor & Maidenhead are all there before us.
Products, such as tea and coffee, which carry the Fairtrade mark have been guaranteeing a better deal for producers in the developing world for nearly twenty years. The Fairtrade system guarantees that the producer will receive a price that covers the cost of production and an extra amount which is used towards projects in their local community, such as schools or healthcare.
To show our support for Fairtrade, we, the undersigned, would like Wycombe to become a ‘Fairtrade Town’ and ask that Wycombe District Council support this initiative. Fairtrade Town status is awarded by the Fairtrade Foundation, when a town has carried out significant work to boost the awareness of Fairtrade in its community.
Other petitions are being signed for the support we need from schools, churches and the local community. This petition is explicitly for companies and should only be signed by those authorised to represent their High Wycombe based company or (for larger companies) the HIgh Wycombe branch of their company.
Please add your signature to help us make Wycombe a Fairtrade Town - putting your company name after your own name when you do so !
