It is now 2011 and there are still no buses on the roads or signs of an early return. Many St. John's residents have lost their jobs because they haven't been able to afford to get to work. Many more will soon be joining them on the unemployment line, and still others will be homeless.
Hundreds of students have failed or had to drop out of school in the past two months as a direct result of not being able to afford to get to classes and exams. Now that the new semester is about to begin, many more students are going to be weighing the difficult choice as to whether or not they can afford to stay in school.
Metrobus must get back on the roads and be designated an essential service so that future students and workers do not have to make the hard decisions we have had to.
