The company Dickerson-Florida L.L.C., at this moment, is preparing a second application into the county for a thirty-year Conditional Use Permit to operate a limestone quarry immediately adjacent to residents in St Lucie County.
I/we are property owners who will be adversely affected by this mine.
Some reasons we are in objection of this mine are as follows:
1. Incompatible heavy industry is being introduced into an already-established rural residential and agricultural/ranching area, contrary to land use declarations.
2. Truck traffic exceeding 500 trucks per day, ten hours a day, five days a week will destroy both the serenity and safety of the area as well as the roads. One twenty-yard dump truck will pass by every thirty seconds.
3. Water will be pumped out of the pits 24/7 and the company has no experience with making sure this will not run our wells dry.
4. Silica dust will promote the incidence of the disease silicosis, a killer disease without cure and recognized by the Mining Safety and Health Administration as such an extreme danger.
5. Historical and archaeological treasures, known to be present in the area, will be lost forever to us and our children when the digging starts.
The sum effect is that all of our property values will suffer incredibly and may even require the total abandonment of all of our dreams and objectives. More issues are covered in the website www.NoRock.org, including a map and details of the proposal.
