Double-Sided Printing

We have signed this petition to encourage you to consider reinstating the incentive for library and computer lab users to print double-sided. Currently, at the price of 10 per side, it costs the same amount of money to print a document, regardless of whether it is single or double-sided. For large documents such as term papers and readings for lectures, double-sided printing would substantially reduce paper consumption.
In its Strategic Plan the university has reiterated its commitment to being a sustainable community: We will strengthen our culture of service and social responsibility. Life at the university will be marked by rich opportunities for service, an active pursuit of sustainability, a steadfast sense of ethics, and a vigorous commitment to the city and people of Washington, D.C. We believe with the size of the AU community, a significant amount of paper could be conserved with double-sided printing.
We acknowledge and appreciate the steps the library has already taken consistent with these values. Putting journals online rather than in print, hosting Green on the Screen films, and placing recycling bins near printers and copiers all indicate the librarys support of environmentally conscious efforts. We ask that the library go another step further and lower the price of double-sided printing to reduce the use of paper.
We thank you for considering our proposal.
