Facebook Users Against Expansion to the General Public

Whereas Facebook.com is primarily a college social networking website and utility owned as a private company started in February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg;
Whereas Facebook.com is a useful and entertaining tool for social networking;
Whereas the users on Facebook.com support the sites original philosophy of helping college students spread information through a social network;
Whereas drastic changes will be made to Facebook.com in the coming weeks of fall 2006, chiefly the gross expansion of its membership to anyone with a valid email address, that call into question the safety and privacy of its more than 9 million current users;
Whereas there has been an unprecedented outpouring of opposition to the recent changes already made within the Facebook community regarding the News Feed and Mini Feed additions;
Whereas the grievances of users have grown exponentially and users threaten to declare independence from the site if this expansion is made because of safety and privacy concerns and a lack of social exclusivity by deactivating our accounts and moving elsewhere if the change takes place;
We, the Facebook.com user community:
Respectfully demand that Facebook.com cease and desist all plans to open Facebook to the general public.
