For example, in early August, a day after dozens of marines were killed in a roadside bomb attack, MSNBC's "Scarborough Country" devoted its full hour to an interview with Natalie Holloway's mother, along with one other missing persons case. We believe this value system of reporting to be disgusting.
We believe that certain shows, especially primetime and early morning cable programming, serve primarily as entertainment that improperly masquerades as news. Even shows that do not blatantly focus on "sensational" stories are still to blame, as they encourage partisan, inconclusive shouting matches. They include, but are not limited to, the following:
MSNBC's "Connected Coast to Coast"
MSNBC's "Scarborough Country"
Fox News' "On the Record"
Fox News' "O'Reilly Factor"
Fox News' "Hannity and Colmes"
CNN's "Larry King Live"
CNN's "Crossfire" (cancelled)
We request that programs treat the issues of the day more seriously, and probe them for their informative - not entertainment - value.
