This petition concerns the denial of Mikal Marchbanks by the Portfolio Review critique panel to become a candidate to graduate and receive his Bachelor of Science degree for the Interactive Media Program during the Tuesday, November 27, 2007 presentations at the Art Institute of California-Orange County.
Statement of Subject Matter and Action Requested:
We, the undersigned students of Interactive Multimedia and Design of The Art Institute of California-Orange County, would like to petition the administration to reconsider their decision to deny the above-mentioned student to graduate in December of 2007.
We feel that Mikal Marchbanks exhibited the level of competency in the Interactive Media and Design program required for the Bachelor's degree based on the work that we have seen him present over the course of the Portfolio II class during the Fall quarter of 2007.
His digital portfolio site can be viewed at http://www.mikalm.com where the work in question can be found. In our opinion, his websites, videos, and flash work all show his skills in the different media platforms while maintaining a style that appeals and is consistent to his potential job market--the independent music scene.
It is also important to note that he was also rejected to graduate the previous quarter, but showed considerable improvement in the aesthetics and technical skills in order to try and graduate in December.
The move to petition was initiated by his fellow candidates to graduate when we thought the decision was unfair due to unjustified reasons, and was shown contradictory to his presentation and portfolio work.
