Get Rid of accuplacers and High School assesments

To the College Board and High Schools alike,

As a senior in high school and an American student, I would like to press my concerns about these scourges called Accuplacer tests. Whether you're taking courses for college or getting classes for college, it is necessary to take the accuplacer tests, as if the SAT and PSAT tests weren't bad enough. You see, should someone receive a low enough score on the placement tests after a certain amount of tries, they will be forced to take a course of remedial English or Math.

I find these things to be both insulting and offensive to anyone out there, being forced to take courses like that just to get into college: seriously, anyone already in high school or college knows basic math, like 1 + 1=2 or how to write a sentence and I'm pretty sure the teachers don't feel like reminding students of simple things over and over again.

Then there are the HSA's, or high school assessments. In Baltimore County, all freshmen and sophomore students are required to slave hours on end and pass these tests, or risk not being able to receive a diploma. And to make matters worse, the students don't get to see their scores until later on in their education, which can cause unnecessary worrying.

We, the Undersigned, feel as though tests like these rob students of their educational values and personna alike. They can make people think less of themselves and assume they are not capable of achieving greatness, which, to me, is exaclty what these tests promote. Whoever wrote that petition against the SAT's was a genius, and believes that standardized tests are only schemes to make money. Not every student in the world has the exact same advantage as others and believe it is discriminatory. We hope that you will listen to us and take advantage of the opportunity.
