We are confused by the English language News Media reporting on the Libyan ruler. The Associated Press, CNN, and MSNBC spell it "Moammar Gadhafi". The New York Times spells it "Muammar el-Qaddafi". The Los Angeles Times spells it as "Moammar Kadafi". Reuters, the Guardian, and the BBC go with "Muammar Gaddafi". The Irish Times goes with "Muammar Gadafy". ABC News spells it "Moammar Gaddafi". The Christian Science Monitor goes with "Muammar Qaddafi". Is the first letter G, K, or Q? Are there one or two d's? One or two f's? Is the first name Muammar, Moamar, or Moamer? One or two m's? U, or O? With the permutations of all the various spellings of first and last names there are over 2,000 variations on the English spelling of the Libyan strongman's name. We the undersigned suggest that for the sake of simplicity, and uniformity all English language news outlets spell the name of [current] Libyan strongman as the simple initials: MG.
