The Stockholm Convention is aimed at the global elimination of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs), some of the world's most dangerous substances. The U.S. must join with our international partners in ratifying this important treaty to protect our health and that of future generations but we must do so without undermining the spirit and effectiveness of the Convention. In the next session, we urge you to support legislation that allows the U.S. to fully implement the POPs treaty, unlike the bill recently proposed by House Republicans that would have blatantly undermined the Convention. The effort to control POPs is truly a global one. Please use your leadership to ensure that the U.S. does its part.
