I, Jesse Cowell, have tried for many years to become the best filmmaker I can and get my work seen by the Hollywood and independent communities. But, due to a system that is full of Hollywood insiders, I have been unable to get even the smallest bit of recognition even after 13 years of making films that many people have enjoyed.
Now, I can certainly understand having my work fail, but to not have it ever even seen, much less have any emails or phone calls returned, is ridiculous and testament to a system that keeps new voices out and old-school Hollywood insiders affluent. This is a terrible thing indeed (not just for me) as I truly believe this robs people everywhere of the unique and interesting new talents popping up all over the world. Francis Ford Coppola once said that the next Beethoven would be a fat girl from Ohio but I believe in the current system of finding new talent, things like festivals that pick so called independents only with name actors, this will never happen. It certainly should not be a curse to live and be born outside of the Los Angeles community - it should be a blessing as we have had many, many years of films all cut from the same mold.
Not wanting to be a victim of circumstance, I recently took my film Shades of Gray and placed the film entirely on the Internet. So far, I have received tremendous support from the people the film was originally meant for - a regular audience.
The film can be seen - FOR FREE - at www.jeskid.com and I would certainly appreciate if you would sign this petition and give me a chance to get into the career I have given my life to pursue.
Thanks much,
Jesse Cowell
