As people who respect the original creation of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, we the undersigned would like to state our dismay at recent news regarding an upcoming "Fantastic Four" live feature.
REGARDING THE MAIN VILLAIN, Dr. Victor Von Doom, we regret:
- His transformation from the ruler of a small distant country to a businessman in America;
- The removal of his involvement in a mixture of sorcery and high technology, which increased the aura of mystery surrounding him and accounted for his facial disfiguration;
- That his main purpose is any other than bringing the entire world into submission.
REGARDING THE HEROES, we ask that:
- Reed Richards be driven by guilt after transforming his best friend Ben Grimm into a monster. This does not weaken his ideals, but enhance them with a sense of responsability;
- Ben Grimm feel the weight of being condemned to live as a freak for the rest of his life and should not be treated as anything "hip" or "edgy";
- Johnny Storm be displayed as a show-off who is willing to reap the benefits of celebrity in all the ways that Ben cannot, and who never misses a chance to rub it in Ben's face.
We fear that, by changing the above in an attempt to reach a wider audience, the producers would only succeed in reaching none at all.
We would also refer the producers to two franchises that mantained the essence of their source material despite many changes, "Spider-Man" and "X-Men", while also proving to be incredibly successful as movie products.
