Governor Rod Blagojevich of Illinois is attempting to pass a law that will make it illegal for minors to purchase video games the government deems to have excessive violence or sexual content. But what are the governments standards, who says the government knows whats best for minors, isnt this the parents job to know what is best for their kids. This is a direct violation of the First Amendment. Governor Blagojevich claims that this is because video games desensitize kids to violence, but is there really anything in video games that is not already in the 7 PM news coverage on the War in Iraq. In addition, the violence does not desensitize kids it actually prepares them to cope with the real world according to Judge Richard Posner of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. Moreover, every inch of ground that we give the government is another right we lose. So join the fight against this monstrosity.
