RELEVANT FACTS:
Mohammad Nourizad is an Iranian filmmaker, activist, and former journalist. On November 20, 2009, he was arrested on charges of insulting authorities and propagation against Islamic Republic of Iran. His arrest followed the publishing of a protest letter by him to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, urging Khamenei to apologize to the country for the bloody crackdown on the opposition movement after the disputed June 2009 presidential elections. On 18 April 2010, it was reported that he was sentenced to 50 lashes and three-and-a-half years in prison.
Since then, Mohammad Nourizad has been brutally silenced for criticizing the government. After his arrest, Mr. Nourizad was beaten, tortured, and finally hospitalized.
Despite Mr. Nourizads critical health condition, he is currently in solitary confinement.
We hereby request Amnesty International to exercise the power to convince the international community to demand the Iranian government to free Mohammad Nourizad without condition, and to terminate any attempts to persecute the Iranian people who dare to criticize the government.
We believe in the power that international pressure can bring. We want to show Irans brutal leaders how brightly our flame can burn by supporting Write for Rights, and shining a light on the forgotten prisoners. We pledge to write this letter to bring freedom, hope and justice to Mohammad Nourizad.
THE UNDERSIGNED RESPECTFULLY REQUEST:
That Mohammad Nourizad be immediately released from prison, and that the sentence against him be reversed and that all charges against him be dismissed.
