Integrity of the Independent Media

Dear Mr. Tsang,

In order for a free and democratic Hong Kong to prosper, we must ensure that our media and news agencies continue their unbiased reporting and editorial freedoms - without the interference of the government.

We are concerned with the recent events concerning the review of public broadcasting in the city and the government's attitude towards the criticisms from RTHK, as we believe that will only damage the reporting integrity of RTHK. Instead of trying to put an end to these criticisms, the government should try to listen to these criticisms and consider them in the decision making process - because meaningful arguments will not hinder Hong Kong's development, as it will only help strengthen our resolve to give the best to the Hong Kong people.

We ask that the government takes action to ensure that RTHK will continue on with its independent reporting, free from government interference. We also ask that the government allocate sufficient funding to RTHK and not cut back in RTHK's funding, as this will only be seen as an attempt by the government to punish dissident journalists.

In order for Hong Kong to remain a free and democratic society, we must preserve the freedoms of press, expression and speech - such that the integrity of the independent media shall not be jeopardized by the interference of any groups.
