No War, No Appeasement, Support Democratic Change with Maryam Rajavi
Iran under the rule of Islamic fundamentalist mullahs has become a major challenge for the international community. The grave violation of human rights, including mass arbitrary arrests, public flogging, cruel punishments such as amputation, stoning to death, gouging out the eyes, hanging in public, and execution of minors, including teenage girls, is continuing unabatedly. These, in addition to the mullahs relentless drive to acquire nuclear weapons, their export of terrorism, and their meddling in Iraq are posing a grave threat to peace, security and democracy in the region and the world.
The Iranian regime has been using economic pressure to force Western governments into imposing ever-greater restrictions on the democratic Iranian opposition. A clear example of these restrictions could be seen in France. Two years ago, a violent raid was launched on the offices of the main Iranian opposition, the National Council of Resistance of Iran, and the residence of NCRIs President-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi. The raid and the subsequent restrictions were the consequences of a deal between the French government and the religious fascist regime in Iran. Human rights advocates in France have described the deal as capitulation to the mullahs regime and devoid of any legitimacy. But the French government continues to put pressure on the resistance movement on the basis of the deal it has struck with Tehran. In an unprecedented act that bewildered human rights organizations in France, the French government banned a peaceful and authorized rally by Iranians in Paris on February 10 to protest against human rights violations in Iran.
We agree with the solution proposed by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi in her speech at the European Parliament in December. She said, the solution to the crisis is neither appeasement nor foreign war. There is a third option: democratic change in Iran by the Iranian people and resistance movement. The main reason the mullahs have been able to continue their brutal rule for 25 years is that Western governments have been giving them concessions and putting pressure on the Iranian opposition.
Putting an end to appeasement of the mullahs regime, and giving support to Maryam Rajavi, the leader of the democratic opposition, and ending the pressures and restrictions imposed on her in France are in line with French traditions and values, and also open the way for democratic change in Iran. At a time when the mullahs are posing an ever-growing threat to peace and stability in the region and the world, this change is the only way to prevent war and foreign military intervention.
