On August 17th, 1989 Putnam County Deputy Sheriff John D. Janey was killed in the line of duty. John was on a stakeout for insurance fraud in Hurricane, WV. The insurance company found out that this man was burning his houses and collecting money for the damaged property. He saw the arsonist enter the premises with two gallon milk jugs full of gasoline. Needless to say the man was caught, backup was called, and my uncle was killed. He was shot three times, but the fatal shot was an execution-style shot to the temple. Somehow, the man that killed him ended up getting life with mercy which means that every three years we go to a parole hearing at whatever jail he is in. My family and I are starting this petition with the hopes of having your support. The man that killed my uncle is coming up for parole this October of 2008. Please give us your support and sign this petition not just for John, but for all survivors of fallen officers. My uncle was killed doing a job that he loved, but the man that killed him took something that we loved away from us as well. We appreciate your support.
