Subject: Let us get justice for Nadine Murshid
Dear Sir,
This is to inform you that Nadine Murshid, a former lecturer of Brac University, and daughter of economist Dr. Khan Ahmed Sayeed Murshid was subject to assuault, battery and rape by her husband, Sajid Huq, in the State of NY during the period of August 29 to September 23. She sustained injuries to her face and body and a case has been filed against the perpetrator in NY County (Docket Number: 05103-2007).
Since the filing of the case in NY, the perpetrator's father, Mr. M Janibul Huq, son-in-law of former IG Rakibuddin Khandaker, has been threatening and harassing the family of Nadine Murshid. He filed false fraud cases on behalf of his son (who is currently in the US) against not only Nadine, but also her parents and sister in an effort to mount pressure on them to drop charges against Sajid Huq.
We, the citizens of the civilized world, want to see Nadine get justice and thereby request you to 1) have the fraudulent charges against Nadine's family revoked and 2) ensure security for the Murshid family.
Filing false cases are often part of the tactics that abusers use in order to discredit victims, according to womens groups. We must not allow the perpetrators to inflict more pain on the victim. Nadines is a case of domestic violence common among many Bangladeshis both in and away from Bangladesh. If other victims see that justice is served, we, as a nation, as a nationality, can address domestic violence in an unprecedented way.
Please let Nadine have justice. Please let wife-beaters and sexual predators know that people will not stand by them, no matter where they come from, who they are, and how much money they have. This is something we owe to all our women.
