The Massachusetts Department of Social Services is supposed to be helping children that need a safe place to live. But in this situation, they are only hurting the child, and everyone that loves her. Kayla Phillips was checked in to Providence Behavioral Health Hospital in Holyoke, Massachusetts in June 2006. She needed the help, and DSS was completely right in sending her there. But her stay has been far longer than it's needed to be, because DSS is not worried about looking for a home for Kayla. They figure that they'll just leave her at Providence until they are forced to place her somewhere else. There is no reason for her to be there any longer. She has gotten the help she needed, and is ready to come back home, and we believe that DSS should start doing their job and put her back in Pittsfield, where she needs to be.
