We as listeners of local radio station BBC Radio Sheffield are disgusted to hear that future plans by the BBC UK could lead to the death of our local radio station and other local radio stations across the UK. The news in the national press is that the BBC could be preparing to replace almost all of its local radio programming with the national station '5live'. If these changes are made we will only get a local breakfast and drive-time programme, how long before these would disappear as well and we are left with a rundown regional service or have to listen to national programming?
Local radio provides a valuable information, news and entertainment service for their localities, many people rely on their local BBC radio station which is their choice, their preference to other regional and national programmes, for which they do pay their licence fee for. Let us also not forget all those presenters, journalists and other staff who will lose their jobs if this future planning for local Radio happens.

Local radio for local people! This station is key to much that goes on in Sheffield - both the good discussions and the crisis situations such as the floods of a few years back. We do need to know local things and this station is the best. Commercial ones
