Konami has made the controversial decision to include a diving option in PES 2008. Via the push of a few buttons, a player can go down like he was shot and gain an unfair free-kick or even a penalty for his team. As the latest Official Playstation Magazine states, this can become a huge annoyance to the potential millions who will play this online as it is likely gamers will find a way to exploit this trick and gain penalties at their will. While Konami may suggest this is all part of the real game, so is people throwing coins onto the pitch and in isolated cases of team mates beating up each other ala Lee Bowyer and Kieron Dyer. You have to draw the line somewhere in terms 'realism' and in PES 2008 this should be limited to how well the game plays in terms of the ball physics, gameplay and related aspects. Diving happens rarely in football matches and when it does it is heavily scrutinized but a CPU is no substitute for the human eye to accurately assess whether someone has dived or not. Moves are being taken to kick diving out of the real game because it spoils it so please join us in asking Konami to do the same or at least issue some kind of options/patch to prevent this dubious option being available online or being present in multiplayer games.
