PETITION TO MAYOR OF LAMBETH
We the undersigned petition the Mayor of Lambeth to request that Lambeth Council implements an Animal Welfare Charter immediately for the benefit of animals within the Borough of Lambeth. The Charter will provide an example to other agencies and individuals to prevent the unnecessary suffering of animals and reflect the concerns of community groups and local people who care about animal welfare and any cruel treatment, abuse or neglect of animals. In drafting and implementing the Charter we implore the Council to work closely with it partners including, the Metropolitan Police Service, the RSPCA, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs or any other relevant Government body. We note that the RSPCA has a new scheme that encourages local authorities to improve their service and to be recognised nationally for their contributions to animal welfare namely, the Community Animal Welfare Footprints scheme. We encourage Lambeth Council to engage with this scheme and in particular with regards to the problem of stray dogs and cats.
