Open letter to Mr. Ban Ki-Moon, the Secretary General of the United Nations
And
To the leaders of the Free World
Mr. Ban Ki-Moon,
Noble Ladies and Gentlemen; heads of the democratically elected governments of the world,
Over the past few weeks, the entire world has been witnessing the uprising of the freedom loving people of Bahrain against deception, injustice and tyranny of its ruling family. The majority of Bahrainis found themselves today at the mercy of a repressive state that has been and continues to be in gross and intolerable violation of all international conventions, taking measures of brutality and savagery against its own people.
The Bahraini people have been demonstrating peacefully for the last weeks, expressing their outrage against their repressive government, asking for the improvement of living conditions and the respect for their basic human rights. However, the ruling family not only has no respect for the will of the Bahraini people, but has demonstrated its truly repressive face by resorting to the most barbaric and inhumane crack downs on peoples peaceful demonstrations, through massive arrests and torture carried out against protesters.
In their quest for achieving their goals, which is a freedom, democracy and social justice, the Bahraini people are being confronted to most brutal and barbaric attacks by the police state and its security apparatus.
Among the people being arrested, is Mrs. Rula Al Saffar, head of the emergency department at the College of Medical Science in Manama, Chairman of Bahrain Nursing Society where she was elected democratically and she is a member of the Bahrain Cancer Society. In all her positions, Mrs Saffar dedicated herself to defending and supporting the causes of poor people and marginalized groups who are the most in need. Mrs. Saffar was called yesterday night by the Bahraini security forces for interrogation. Since then, nobody has ever heard from her. It is worth mentioning, that as a breast cancer survivor, Mrs. Saffar is being deprived in her detention, from proper medical care and hygienic conditions. Furthermore, she is under severe physical and psychological pressure. We believe that her life is extremely in danger.
We, the undersigned, draw your immediate attention to the following:
X At these critical moments, the Bahraini people need the support of the world community for the immediate release of all innocent political prisoners, men and women, and Mrs Saffar in particular.
X We demand that the United Nations to denunciate the ruling familys inhumane behavior against the Bahraini people and to support the legitimate demands for democracy, social justice and freedom of expression.
We expect the free world community to stand beside the Bahraini people during these critical times and to show their support for their freedom seeking struggle during these decisive moments.
Sincerely,
