As residents of the City of Ann Arbor and parents of children attending Ann Arbor Open School at Mack, we the undersigned, urge our City Council and our School Board to work together to preserve Mack Pool as both a community resource for our families AND as an educational resource for our children in school.
Many of us have sent our children to Ann Arbor Open School because it gives them access to a great resource to learn to swim early in their lives. We wish that to continue. But at the same time, we have families that will grow beyond Ann Arbor Open School. So as families we want the pool to continue to be open to the public so the whole of our family can use it long term year round. With multiple users, this expensive resource is put to best use. On many days the pool is used from 5:45am to 9pm, yet the current unused hours should be considered for better use.
We realize that both the City and the School Board are under intense financial pressure, but we believe that there has to be a way to keep the pool open to both Open School children and the community on a financially viable long term basis. As parents and residents, we will work with Mack Users to try to achieve this and urge the City and the School Board to do the same.
Please do the right thing and act in a unified way for the good of our school and of our community. Many of our children have already written to the Mayor supporting our request. They are the future of Ann Arbor. Please listen to them.
