Make Florida an open primary state

Florida is a closed primary state, meaning that unless you're registered with a major party, you can't really vote in the primary election. As of 2002, 22\% of all registered voters in Florida were neither Democrats or Republicans. Also since 2002, 45\% of all voters have registered as either independent, or for a third party.
We propose changing Florida to an "open primary" state. This would mean that, as independents, we can choose which ballot we want (Republican, Democrat, or a third party), then vote for the candidate we want to win. Under the current system, we have basically no say in which candidates advance to the general elections. Let the people of Florida decide whether or not they should be allowed to vote.
