Marte Deborah Dalelv, a 24 year old woman from Norway, was raped in Dubai. She did what any reasonable person might do: she went to the police. Instead of getting the help she needed, she was put on trial. Her crime was being the victim of rape. She was convicted of having sex outside of marriage and sentenced to 16 month in prison – in Dubai.
The story hit the Norwegian news sites on Wednesday, July 17th, and many people began to show their support for Marte on different social media platforms. We in Partnership for Activism.com were also very touched by the story and wanted to help Marte the best way we could.
On Monday, July 22nd 2013, Marte was released.
