As Europes BIGGEST shopping centre, I find it incredible that of the 10,000 FREE parking spaces provided, NONE of these cater for visitors with small children who need assistance getting in and out of their cars.
A representative of Metrocentre told me -
'As we are a family orientated centre, it is difficult determining just how many spaces would need to be made available to a parent and child scheme for it to satisfy everybody's needs'.
The statement goes on to say -
'In addition to this problem, there is also the matter of policing the scheme. Disabled motorists have badges to display to show that they are entitled to park in the spaces provided to them. With Parent and Child parking, a guard would need to be present when the car enters the space to verify a persons eligibility to park there.
They employ wardens to police mis-use of a Disabled bay, why can this person not also police the parent and child spaces?
By law they must provide parking for the disabled so they do, they do not need to do this for parents, so they do not.
Please sign this petition so Metrocentre bow to parent power and make some spaces available for us parents with small children, the health and well being of my child is put at risk when I visit the Metrocentre due to the lack of moral responsibility shown by Metrocentre, lets see if we can make a change
