Help Keep Niquette Bay State Park Dog Friendly

NBSP has been a dog haven for many years, until the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation worked to increase the parks popularity. Now that this effort has been successful, the Department wishes to curtail summer use of the park, first by creating a fee structure for its use, and more importantly by restricting dogs within the park.

We, the undersigned, would like to participate in discussions that would limit our use and enjoyment of NBSP. As the parks predominant year-round users (estimates are as high as 95\%), those of us with dogs oppose limiting the time of day we are allowed into the park or on its beach with our dogs. We also oppose the mandatory use of leashes on the parks trails.

We understand that we are responsible for our dogs, and to this end we agree to remove dog waste from the beach and traveled areas.

Those in our community who do not wish to interact with dogs have many choices for outdoor recreation that are not available to off-leash dog use. Off-leash dog parks provide a place for dogs to socialize with each other, getting the physical and mental exercise they need to be good companions and good neighbors and they promote responsible pet ownership. Further, well-socialized dogs are less aggressive towards people and other dogs.

175. Glenn S | As long as dog owners are responsible and pick up their feces, then I see nothing wrong with allowing dogs, unleashed within Niquette Bay State Park.
174. Sandra R | The park is one of the major assets of our lives; we walk our dogs there, during all four seasons, and find its beauty inspiring. I would hate to lose access to the park, especially the freedom to walk my dogs there. We enjoy it so much.
