No Planes @ Hernando Point

A developer wants to build a private airstrip and subdivision, which would include about 13 small airplanes, almost adjacent to the campground area. The plans also include night lighting, meaning the activity and noise would not be limited to any given hour of the day or night. While the noise level may not be huge, imagine lying in your tent at night hearing aircraft overhead. In comparison (to the usual sounds of nature) it would be deafening. We do not see many campers continuing to enjoy Hernando Point if this happens.
We therefore request that the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors deny this proposed development. We feel this is a very ill-fitting location, especially when there is already an airport/subdivision within ten miles still advertising for new growth. This and many other areas could better accommodate this request without ruining the park.
This petition will be mailed (via USPS and email) to the DeSoto County Board of Supervisors on November 26, 2005. If you support our efforts to keep Hernando Point the beautiful and peaceful place it now is, please add your signature below and ask all of your friends and family to do the same.
