We, the undersigned submit that the hard-working seniors at Olmsted Falls High School be given the option to opt-out of final examinations for a number of reasons. It has been a tradition in OFHS, that seniors, after four long years of hard work, can look forward to three days of rest. Students and teachers alike have been planning their high school schedules based on the assumption that these exemptions will take place. Contrary to the beliefs of the administration, exemptions are NOT an excuse used to slack off in class. Rather, they serve as an incentive for students to, first of all, strive for good attendance, and also good grades, as most teachers use certain guidelines in regards to both of these. For example, if a student is debating whether or not to skip school, but he knows that he has already been absent for five days, he will choose to go in order to keep the hope of exemptions alive. In a similar sense, he might also strive for a better grade in all his classes. Exemptions are an important part in the fight against "Senioritis", and without them, many more students will succumb to its effects. We submit that senior exemptions be reestablished, effective immediately and continued in the Olmsted Falls Educational System.
