We, the undersigned, object to the current proposal to build a track at Pageant field in Merrymount Park, Quincy. We urge the Quincy City government to reconsider this project and choose a more suitable location for this facility.
Pageant Field stands as an important and unique green space in the city of Quincy. The building of a track will have a negative environmental impact on the park. The effects of construction including: cutting some of the oldest and most beautiful trees, leveling the field, and relocating the boathouse will ruin this area. The myriad groups who currently use the field; ball teams, picnickers, after-school programs, and pet owners will not have the same access to the field once the track is built.
We believe that Pageant field in it's current state is a magnificent green space that serves the largest number of Quincy Residents and that a track will have a negative impact both from an environmental standpoint as well as decrease park accessibility for the average citizen. We respectfully request that the Quincy City government reconsider its plan in favor of a more suitable location.
