What is a board? A board is suppose to be a friendly place to come to; to get help or share information. A board member is also suppose to give as well as receive information. Also being most important, follow the rules. People do not care for the rules anymore and action must be taken. These days on the ESPN boards there is way too much spam going around and a lot of unnecessary posts for example like "Madden or ESPN" even though it clearly says in the rules "If you'd like to discuss another game or make your ESPN v XXX game comparison, please consider the off topic forum." This does not stop game comparisons. This goes for all the discussions from ESPN NFL Football to NBA Basketball and so on. You will see multiples of these floating on the boards among with other posts pertaining to the same subject. Lets say the same topic gets posted 10 times on one page, everyone elses posts will get moved back and never get a chance to be viewed. This isn't fair to a lot of the users. Why should someone not get a answer because someone else can't look a common question up. Banning these people and giving them time outs does not solve the problem. The problem is caused by a lot of "newbies" which don't understand how a board works. Most of them have between 1-50 post history. Just like in life, you have to give before you can receive and the same rules should apply to the board. What can be done here is disable the ability for "newbies" to start new threads. Unless it is in the game issues section. ESPN members with 1-50 posts for say. Once they have 50 plus posts they can start their own threads. For those who participate actively and have a normal, healthy role in the community, than their ability not to start threads wont last long. So active members should have no problems moving up and being able to start their own threads. Going with this idea will save a lot of room and make the community a better place to come to.
Review of key outcomes of this new rule:
A whole lot less spam on the boards
Save the administrators time
Make the community a lot more active and helpful
