Petition against CDHOs professional portfolio

PETITION AGAINST PROFESSIONAL PORTFOLIO The coalition of Dental Hygienists in Ontario would like to petition for an amendment to the submission of the professional portfolio as per CDHO’s quality assurance program as per the RHPA 1991. We believe this matter has not been addressed before collectively because of the fear that doing so the RDH responsible for this will automatically see an audit heading her or his way. We hope that by raising awareness, the CDHO will reconsider the way current QA program is implemented. This petition letter will be sent to Minister of Health and Long-Term Care if no signs of resolving this matter in a way that will still uphold the standards for providing care are observed. We believe that the quality of our work can be assessed successfully by different means such as collecting CE credits similar to that of the RCDSO or the CCO QA program. The quality and expectation to upkeep with the standards the CDHO has established can be evaluated differently by reviewing other colleges QA programs. We believe that the CDHO’s QA program does not help motivate RDH’s improve their knowledge in a positive environment instead it allows for fear and discourages all Ontario RDHs to comply with standards that at times seem to be taken to the extreme of a spectrum that cannot be attained. The College has gone too far in the requirements they expect of Dental Hygienists. When comparing other professions under the RHPA such as physicians, dentists and nurses all of which have a greater scope of practice but yet only have to do continuing education hours to satisfy the expectations of their respective colleges. It is difficult to understand why the CDHO has decided to make our requirements much more rigid than that of the above health professionals. This is why we are asking you to voice your opinion by signing this petition. The more people we get to sign the better chance we will have to change the way our QA programs works. Our goal, as of 2013, is to completely get rid of the professional portfolio and replace it with 60 CE hours every 3 years. The reason for every three years is that some years we have more hours than other years. As well we want our CPR, first aid and office lunch and learns to be included in these hours. When you sign, the names will be shifted around continuously so no one knows who has signed first or last.
