Petition to save other children going through what louie went through, make our residential streets 20m.p.h. Description Please take a moment to read the story of Louie Santangeli, as featured in the Liverpool Echo, who ended up badly injured just playing out with his friends in a residential Kensington street. This should not be allowed to happen again. Taken from Liverpool Echo Website.... Liverpool miracle boy Louie survives being squashed by car THE mum of a little boy who survived being squashed beneath the wheels of a car was today praised her “little miracle” after he survived apalling injuries. Susan Santangeli, 50, said she feared the worst when her eldest boy told her Louie, five, had been run over. When she arrived at the scene of the crash in Empress Road, Edge Hill, two weeks ago all Susan could see was a crowd and her son’s little legs poking out from beneath a car. Louie and his brother Joe, ten, were playing out a few streets from their home in Hall Lane, Kensington, when the youngster was hit by a passing car. Susan said: “When I first saw him I feared the worst. I thought he was dead. He wasn’t talking but he was crying and he would keep drifting off and back again. “I was trying to keep myself calm but it was very hard.” Firefighters lifted the car onto blocks and managed to ease him out from underneath in a dramatic thirty-minute rescue operation. Louie, a pupil at nearby Sacred Heart School, was taken to Alder Hey Hospital were he underwent five hours of surgery on a fractured skull, broken leg, crushed pelvis and broken hips. Susan said: “It is an absolute miracle he survived. He is due to graduate from reception class soon and I am so happy to say he will still do that. We nearly lost him.” Susan and husband Dave Renshaw, 60, added: “We would like to thank the firefighters who were so professional and the staff of Alder Hey Hospital. “It is the best hospital in the world. I just kept thanking the surgeon every time I saw him.” Reds fan Louie is now back at home after spending ten days recuperating in hospital. Susan said: “He is just an outgoing, fun-loving little boy who is very lucky to be alive. He refused pain medication after the fourth day and now just wants to get his bandages off. He is my little trooper.” Read More http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-news/local-news/2011/07/11/liverpool-miracle-boy-louie-survives-being-squashed-by-car-100252-29030430/#ixzz1T1FjzahE Quote from Susan Santangeli, Louies Mum "This is what 30mph does to a child. Louie was lucky, the next child might not be. I'd never like another mother to go through the heartache I went through that day this is why i'm asking to to take a few minutes of your time to read our story and add your details to make a difference and ultimately save a child's life. Many Thanks for your continuing support ."
