PRESERVING MASSHEALTH DENTAL COVERAGE

In an effort to close the Massachusetts budget gap, the Patrick Administration proposed cuts to the MassHealth adult dental benefit, eliminating coverage for all services except preventative care and extractions.

This would force patients with major dental problems to seek care in hospital emergency rooms, a much more expensive and ineffective alternative than receiving regular dental care in a dental office. It would also force dentists to perform supervised neglect on patients who need oral health critical treatment.

We the undersigned are against any cancellation or reduction in MassHealth adult benefits. We believe that a reduction in access along with services will be a detriment to the overall health for the citizens of Massachusetts.
